Local MP Sarah Teather is calling on Transport for London to make Boris Bikes available at Willesden Green Tube Station.
The bike hire scheme has seen a significant increase in cycling since it was introduced in July 2010. In the first 6 months cyclists using these bikes made more than 2.5 million trips, travelling a distance equal to 13 times to the moon and back.
Plans to introduce more bikes and docking points across the east of the city are scheduled to be completed in time for the Olympic Games.
However calls for a docking station at Willesden Green have so far been ignored.
Brent was made a biking borough last year and given £25,000 to develop its cycling strategy. In addition, the Mayor of London announced on 21 February a £4bn fund that all 13 biking boroughs can apply for a share of.
Sarah Teather has now written to Boris Johnson urging him to make Boris Bikes available at Willesden Green.
Commenting on the matter, Sarah said:
"I am very keen to see Boris bikes available to hire locally. Cycling is great for people's health, good for the environment, and allows local people to avoid the chaos on the jubilee line."
"The Mayor of London has identified Outer London areas like Brent as ideal locations to increase bike usage, and money has been made available."
"I have written to Boris asking for these bikes and I am now working hard to make sure that Brent fulfils its obligations as a biking borough and introduces a number of cycle hubs, starting with one at Willesden Green Tube Station."
