Local Lib Dem campaigners fight for a 20 mph speed limit

Liz Leffman and the Whiteley Liberal Democrats are concerned that children are in danger when going to and from Whiteley Primary School, because traffic on Yew Tree Drive is driving too fast.

“I’ve watched as parents and children try to cross Yew Tree Drive” says Liz Leffman, Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for the Meon Valley constituency.

“Drivers come down the road at well over 30mph. What we need on Yew Tree Drive is a proper pedestrian crossing, which will have the effect of slowing traffic as well as making crossing the road near the Primary School safer.”

Vivian Achwal, who works as a lollipop lady on Yew Tree Drive, believes that Yew Tree Drive should be a 20mph zone in the area close to the school.

“Yew Tree Drive is an accident waiting to happen” says Vivian.

Liz Leffman and the Liberal Demcrats have launched a petition to ask Hampshire County Council to build a crossing and lower the speed limit to 20mph on Yew Tree Drive.

Make Whiteley Roads Safer

We, the undersigned, call on Hampshire County Council to provide a crossing on Yew Tree Drive, and to make that part of Yew Tree Drive that is within 100 yards of Whiteley Primary School a 20mph zone
