The recent publication of the Stern report has made one thing absolutely clear; climate change can no longer be ignored. Not only is there a massive human and environmental cost attached, but there is a huge economic cost.
It is much cheaper to act now, it is much safer to act now and, greater than any expediency, we should act now because it is the right thing to do. It is our duty to future generations to leave them an inhabitable world.
The Green Tax Switch is a step in the right direction. By cutting the basic rate of income tax and plugging the shortfall with taxes on pollution, there is a financial incentive for people to act in an eco-friendly way. This is not panacea, but it is a start. It is time we started driving on the road to environmental redemption, not motoring into oblivion.
