David fighting for residents
David fighting for residents' rights
David is a hard-working Tottenham resident. He lives off Green Lanes, as he has for the last twenty years.

A tough lawyer, he has been working hard on many key local issues in Tottenham – not least the hugely controversial Wards Corner Development near Seven Sisters Tube, just outside the ward.

If you have any questions for David, just use the comments box below.

Wards Corner

David and Haringey Liberal Democrats joined with local residents in attacking Labour-run Haringey Council for forcing through a decision to bulldoze the thriving Latin American market in Wards Corner. Liberal Democrats on the Planning Committee voted against the unpopular plans (the only party to do so) but they were brushed aside by the ruling Labour group.

The Labour members voted for a gated private housing development with no affordable housing for local people - despite promising they would never do this.

David has previously given the Wards Corner coalition of local residents and traders free legal advice and is now working with them on how they can prepare a judicial review of the decision.

Baby P

Like many others, David went through the full set of emotions after reading of Baby P's death: horror, sadness – and anger. Particularly as after Victoria Climbie’s death, and the horrible shambles at Haringey Council which it exposed, we are back here again.

When whistle blowers spoke up, the Labour-run Council's response was not to listen to them but to gag them with court orders. Even after Baby P’s death, every single Labour councillor voted to keep in their posts both the leader of the Council and the Councillor who was in charge of children’s services.

Thank goodness that they finally went after the Government – to its credit – issued a damning report which resulted in their resignations.

David is continuing to campaign for a full public enquiry to ensure that these systemic faliures  do not happen again - here or anywhere.

He is also demanding that there be no reward for failure. If staff are found to have grossly failed to keep our children safe, then David is campaigning to make sure that no taxpayers money is used to buy them off - there has been talk of the Labour-run council reaching six figure settlements with staff who leave as a result of the scandal.
