9,000 more houses and flats planned for Chelmsford from now to 2021; more (maybe much more) by 2031.

Says local campaigner Stephen Robinson, "Young people and young families need affordable housing but this is far too much and in the wrong place. Local services are already under strain, and congestion is a problem at many major junctions including Chignal Road, White Hart Lane, Springfield Road, New London Road and of course the Army & Navy roundabout."

Chelmsford's Conservative-run Council plans to squeeze between 5,000 and 7,000 into the town area and 4,000 on green fields around the edge, mostly in the area known as 'Greater Beaulieu Park'. (This is all on top of the 6,000 since 2001.)

Conservative plans for the town are driven by the needs of major, international corporations rather than what's best for local people.

Enough cars are already coming into central Chelmsford on a daily basis, causing congestion, pollution and road safety hazards.

For more than ten years, the Lib Dems' preferred solution has been for (a) some town centre housing  (on brown-field sites) so that young people can afford to buy here, and (b) a sustainable, new community on the gravel pits and old airfield north of the A12, north of Boreham.

To help solve the congestion we need: FOUR Park & Rides around Chelmsford, more cyclepaths, better bus services, plus the proposed station.
