As the recession hits, many of us across Islington are feeling the pinch. People are losing their jobs, income from savings and investments is down, and costs are still rising.
This is why, when we vote to set the level of council tax for 2009/10, the Liberal Democrats on the council will be proposing a tax freeze. We know that at this difficult time, the last thing you need is for your council tax to increase.
However, Labour Party members on the council want to put up your council tax to fund their expensive spending proposals. Remember, when Labour were running the the council, Islington's council tax was the highest in London, but since the Liberal Democrats took control, they have brought levels down to below the London average, whilst retaining high quality services for all.
I want to know your views. Do you agree that is wrong for the council to be putting up your taxes in the current climate? There will be a vote taken on this at a Council Meeting on the 26th February 2009.
