Hackney Says No to Nuclear Trains
The government has been running regular trains carrying nuclear waste through Hackney on the North London Line for years.
They say it’s safe. We don’t believe them. There is no way of knowing what could happen in the event of a terrorist attack on one of these trains, or an accident.
Now, in spite of all the environmental and other evidence against nuclear power, the Labour government wants to build more nuclear power stations.
If they can’t think of a better way to transport the unbelievably dangerous waste these plants produce than transporting it through the middle of London, then they shouldn’t build any more nuclear power stations - and they should get rid of the ones we’ve got as soon as possible.
Please sign the petition below to support our campaign and to help rid Hackney of this threat to our safety and wellbeing once and for all.
We the undersigned call on the government to act with the greatest speed to:
1) Make an immediate commitment to ending the transportation of radioactive waste through the London Borough of Hackney and other population centres and end such transportations as soon as is practicable.
2) Grant a power to locally elected authorities allowing them to refuse transit of radioactive waste though populated areas within an authority.
3) Impose a moratorium on the construction of new nuclear facilities until such time as the safe transport and disposal of waste from these facilities can be guaranteed.
