Tim Farron MP has relaunched his petition against cuts to local health services to remind the hospitals trust of the strength of opposition that was shown during last year's consultation exercise.
Tim says, "Despite the fact that the NHS is in a much better position financially, local health bosses still seem determined to close our excellent heart and stroke units. Last summer the local community really pulled together to oppose the cuts to our health services. This summer, we need to remind health bosses of our opposition.
"Since I've been an MP we've marched through Kendal twice to save local health services. The first time we were successful in saving the adult mental health ward at the Westmorland General Hospital. If we need to march again to save our heart and stroke units, then we must do so. We simply cannot allow these cuts to go through unchallenged."

We call upon the local health trusts to abandon plans to close the coronary care unit and the stroke unit at WGH. We note that one of the chief reasons given for launching the acute service review in 2006 was the financial difficulties faced by the trusts and that those difficulties have since been resolved. We call upon the trusts to listen to the objections voiced by the overwhelming majority of local people through the acute service review consultation and the recent 'Great Health Debate'. We further believe that it is simply unsafe to take patients who would currently go to Kendal the extra distance to Lancaster or Barrow.
