North Herts Council’s cabinet is considering a proposal that would end decision making on planning applications by local councillors representing the area concerned.

At the moment planning applications are decided by all the councillors in each of five area committees from across the district, but the proposed changes would replace this with centralised decision making.

They also propose to cut the number of area committees. Council officials say it would be quicker, more consistent and would save money.

We think it would just make it harder for local people to get their views heard.

We call on North Herts Council to reject the proposals to centralise all planning decision making across the District and continue the practice of planning applications being decided by the area committees representing Baldock & District, Hitchin, Letchworth, Royston & District and the Southern Rural Area.
