Across the length and breadth of Pembroke people are dissatisfied with the pavements. In some places there are no pavements at all! In other places the surface is uneven, because the slabs are broken or have been badly patched with blacktop. The entire pavement may be asphalt, which quickly deteriorates and becomes uneven.

We the undersigned call upon Pembrokeshire County Council to address the poor state of pedestrian pavements in our Town. In many instances they simply do not exist, forcing people (including children and those with disabilities) to walk in the road. Where they do exist the surface is often in a poor state of repair and uneven. We believe that every effort should be made to encourage people to walk within Towns, both as a way of reducing carbon emissions and as a way of promoting fitness and health. We think it particularly important that children be encouraged to walk to school. So Safe Routes to School should be given a very high priority.
