Liz Leffman and Cllr Peter Mason fighting to save our Post Offices
Local campaigners Liz Leffman and Cllr Peter Mason are backing local residents in campaigning to keep open Post Offices in the Meon Valley that have been targetted for closure.

Durley (Memorial Hall), Bishops Waltham (Newtown, Winchester Road) and Curdridge (Gordon Road) Post Offices have been named by the Government as being targets for closure.

Over the last two decades, post offices have been closing at a rate of over 300 a year. Under the last Conservative Government, 3,500 local Post Offices closed, and under Labour another 4,000 have closed, hitting communities across the country. Now things are set to get even worse in Meon Valley.

"Many residents in these affected parts of Meon Valley rely heavily on the services provided and we must fight to the end to save them," said Liz Leffman, Lib Dem Prospective MP for Meon Valley.

"These plans would wreck the local economies of our local towns and villages."

Liz Leffman and the Liberal Democrats have launched a petition to save local Post Offices across the Meon Valley area.

The Liberal Democrats are the only party with a fully-funded plan to save the post office and give it a long-term future.

The plan includes:
• £2 billion invested in the post office network
• New branches opening where needed
• Government services continuing to be available at the post office
• Freeing the post office from Royal Mail restrictions to let it develop new business
• A new legal requirement for the Government to maintain the local post office network

Save Meon Valley Post Offices

We, the undersigned, call on the Government to stop the closure of the Post Offices under threat in the Meon Valley - Durley (Memorial Hall), Bishops Waltham (Newtown, Winchester Road) and Curdridge (Gordon Road).  The Government should instead free the business from restrictive regulation, invest in the future of the network and stop removing government business to safeguard our post offices.
