Student Housing Should Count!

The Government is demanding that over 21,000 new homes are built in Bath and North East Somerset by 2026!

While everyone accepts the notion that more affordable homes are necessary, this target completely ignores local circumstances:

Extensive purpose-built student accommodation is being developed around the city for Bath's 2 universities.

This will reduce pressure on students to look for low-cost housing in the private sector, freeing up more affordable homes for those that really need them.

The Government does not currently allow new student builds to count towards the housing target.
We believe they SHOULD.

Maybe not on a 1:1 ratio, but surely 4 student rooms could count as 1 home!
I/ we the undersigned believe that new purpose-built student accommodation in Bath should count towards the new housing target of 21,300 imposed on us by Whitehall. I back the Bath Liberal Democrats common sense campaign to prevail.
