Stone railway station has been promised a stopping service next year - but this will be a service from Crewe via Stoke stopping at Stone and then going to London Euston down the slow line through the Trent Valley.

Stone Liberal Democrats believe that very few people will travel on such a service and are campaigning to persuade the Department for Transport to change its mind and give us a  service between Birmingham and Manchester.

We believe that a Birmingham / Manchester service would be popular with commuters and shoppers alike and would help to alleviate traffic congestion on the M6 motorway between the two cities.

We, the undersigned, call on the Department for Transport, to implement a stopping service at Stone Railway Station as soon as possible and demand that the service be between Birmingham and Manchester. We do not believe that a service between Crewe and London Euston via the Trent Valley stations will be of any benefit to residents of Stone and surrounding areas.
