The Far North is one of the most remote areas of the UK and one poorly served by public transport infrastructure. We, the people of the Far North, are thus far more reliant on private transport for both work and our day to day lives than other regions of the UK. While higher fuel duties may encourage people in urban areas such as London to use public transport it can have no effect here. High fuel duties act as an unfair tax on the Far North and the Highlands and make everybody's life here that little bit more difficult. The Government must recognize the necessities of life in the Far North and the difficulties faced in everyday transport.

I/We the undersigned call for the Government to recognize the justified frustration of people in remote areas and to tackle the unfair fuel duties we are subjected to. We thus support the Rural Fuel Scheme submitted to the Treasury by John Thurso MP.
