The well-loved centre was closed on 28 March 2011 by Labour-run Merton Council as part of a cost cutting exercise. But closing the centre simply makes no sense at all.

It will cost taxpayers far more to put extra rubbish in landfill if people aren’t able to recycle as much as before.

And the site is still earmarked for waste processing – possibly to be used for a bigger facility. We want our recycling centre back!

Merton Council is wrong to close the Weir Road Recycling Centre.
